“Known by God”
Text: 1 Corinthians 8;2-3
“And if anyone thinks he knows something, he knows nothing yet as he ought to know it. But if anyone loves God, that one is known by God.” — 1 Corinthians 8:2–3
Introduction:
The church in Corinth was filled with people who were proud of their spiritual knowledge. They debated doctrines, argued about freedom, and boasted in what they understood. But Paul confronts them with a powerful truth: knowledge without love produces pride, but love for God produces intimacy with God.
Paul says, “If anyone thinks he knows something, he knows nothing yet as he ought to know it.”
This is a warning against spiritual arrogance. A person may know Scripture, theology, and religious language, yet still fail to know God deeply. Human knowledge is limited. The more we truly grow in God, the more humble we become.
True spiritual maturity is not measured by how much information we possess, but by how much love we carry.
Then Paul says, “But if anyone loves God, that one is known by God.”
What a comforting statement! The greatest blessing is not that we know many things about God, but that God Himself knows us personally. To be “known by God” means to be accepted, loved, watched over, and in fellowship with Him.
Many people seek recognition from men, but heaven’s greatest honor is to be recognized by God.
A person may not have great education, titles, or influence, but if he genuinely loves God, heaven knows his name.
Illustration
A child may not understand everything about his father’s work, finances, or responsibilities, but he knows he is loved because he belongs to his father. In the same way, believers do not know everything about God, but those who love Him belong to Him and are known by Him.
Conclusion
God is not looking for proud minds; He is looking for loving hearts. Knowledge alone can make a man cold and arrogant, but love for God produces humility, obedience, and true fellowship.
So let us not boast in what we know. Let us pursue a deeper love for God, because the greatest testimony is this: “That one is known by God.”
Prayer
Lord, remove every pride from our hearts. Teach us true wisdom that produces humility and love. Help us not to seek human applause, but to live as people who are known and approved by You. In Jesus’ name,.. Amen.
