“Beware of the Voice That Questions God”

Text: Genesis 3:1–3, 5.

Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, “Really, did God say, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden?’”

And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden,

And the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil”.”

-Genesis 3:1-2, 4-5

Introduction:

From the very beginning, Satan’s greatest weapon has not been force but deception. The serpent did not attack Eve with a sword; he attacked her mind with a question: “Really, did God say…?” The enemy still uses the same strategy today—he tries to make us doubt God’s Word, God’s goodness, and God’s intentions.

1. The Enemy Comes Through Subtlety

The serpent was described as “more subtle than any beast of the field.” Satan often does not present evil in an obvious form. He disguises temptation as wisdom, freedom, pleasure, or a better opportunity. Therefore, believers must be spiritually alert and test every voice against the truth of God’s Word.

2. Doubting God’s Word Leads to Disobedience

The first step toward sin was not eating the fruit; it was entertaining the conversation that questioned God’s command. Whenever we allow human opinions, desires, or worldly ideas to stand above God’s instructions, we place ourselves in danger.

3. Satan Offers a False Promise.

The serpent said, “Your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God.” The enemy always advertises the benefits of disobedience but hides the consequences. What appeared to be a path to greater wisdom became the doorway to shame, fear, and separation from God.

Conclusion.

Every believer must decide whose voice to follow. The serpent says, “Question God’s command,” but faith says, “Trust and obey the Lord.” God’s instructions are not given to limit us but to protect and preserve us.

Prayer:

Lord, give us discernment to recognize the enemy’s subtle lies. Help us to treasure Your Word, resist every temptation, and remain faithful to Your commands. Amen.
