Text: Psalm 14:2–3
"The LORD looked down from heaven on the children of men to see if there were any who understand and seek God. They have all turned aside, they have all together become corrupt. There is no one who does good, no, not one."
Introduction
The psalm presents a solemn picture. God is not merely watching human activity—He is examining the human heart. He searches to find people who truly understand Him and sincerely seek Him. Instead of finding righteousness, He finds a world that has wandered away from Him.
This passage reminds us that God's evaluation is different from man's. People may appear successful, religious, or respectable, but God sees the condition of the heart.
1. God is looking for those who Seek Him
"The LORD looked down from heaven..."
God is actively interested in humanity. He is looking for people who love Him, obey Him, and seek His will.
Throughout Scripture, God honors those who seek Him.
"You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart" (Jeremiah 29:13).
"Without faith it is impossible to please Him... He rewards those who diligently seek Him" (Hebrews 11:6).
The greatest question is not whether we have found success, but whether God finds a heart devoted to Him.
2. Humanity's Greatest Problem Is Sin
"They have all turned aside... become corrupt."
Sin is not merely doing wrong; it is turning away from God. Every person has inherited a sinful nature. Pride, selfishness, greed, hatred, and unbelief are evidence of that corruption.
The Apostle Paul quotes this very passage in Romans 3 to show that every human being needs God's grace.
No one can save himself through good works because sin has affected every heart.
3. God's Grace Is Greater Than Human Corruption
The bad news of Psalm 14 prepares us for the good news of the gospel.
When no one could reach God, God came down to us in Jesus Christ.
Christ lived the perfect life we could not live, died for our sins, and rose again so that everyone who trusts in Him can be forgiven and made righteous.
God is still looking today—not for perfect people, but for repentant hearts that turn to Him in faith.
Illustration
A jeweler once searched through a tray of dirty stones. To everyone else they looked like worthless rocks. But the jeweler recognized a diamond hidden beneath the dirt. He carefully cleaned it until it sparkled.
Sin has covered humanity like dirt covers a precious stone. Jesus is the One who cleanses, restores, and transforms those who come to Him. What the world cannot repair, Christ can redeem.
Practical Lessons.
Examine your heart honestly before God.
Seek God daily through prayer and His Word.
Never trust in your own goodness; trust in Christ's righteousness.
Share the gospel, because everyone needs the saving grace of Jesus.
Conclusion.
When God looked down, He found that humanity had turned away from Him. Yet He did not abandon us. Instead, He sent His Son to seek and save the lost.
Today God is still searching for hearts that will respond to His love. Will He find in you a heart that seeks Him?

If you have drifted from God or never truly surrendered your life to Christ, today is the day to return. Confess your sins, believe in Jesus Christ, and receive His forgiveness. Let God transform your heart and make you a new creation.
Closing Prayer.
Heavenly Father, we confess that we have all sinned and fallen short of Your glory. Thank You for sending Jesus Christ to save us when we could not save ourselves. Search our hearts, cleanse us from all unrighteousness, and give us a sincere desire to seek You every day. May our lives bring You honor, and may we remain faithful until the end. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
