Topic: "How Were Your Eyes Opened?"

Text: John 9:10. 

"Therefore they said to him, 'How were your eyes opened?'"

Introduction

One of the greatest miracles is not merely opening blind eyes but opening blind hearts. In John 9, Jesus met a man who had never seen the sunrise, the smile of his parents, or the beauty of creation. He had lived his entire life in darkness. But one encounter with Jesus changed everything.

The neighbors could not ignore the transformation. They did not ask, "Who is this man?" They asked, "How were your eyes opened?"

A changed life always raises questions. When Christ transforms someone, the world notices.

1. There Was a Time of Darkness

The blind man had never seen. Blindness was not just his condition—it defined his reputation.

Many people today are living in darkness:

Darkness of sin.

*Darkness of addiction.

*Darkness of bitterness.

*Darkness of hopelessness.

*Darkness of ignorance about God.

People may smile outwardly while their souls remain blind.

Imagine a child born in a dark cave who has never seen light. One day someone leads him outside. At first the sunlight hurts his eyes, but gradually he sees mountains, trees, flowers, and the blue sky. Suddenly he realizes that what he thought was life was only darkness.

That is what Jesus does for sinners.

> Until Christ enters a life, many do not realize how spiritually blind they have been.

2. Jesus Does What No One Else Can Do. 

Doctors could not help this man. Religion could not help him. Society only accepted him as a beggar.

But Jesus stopped.

Sometimes people have given up on us, but Jesus never does.

He made clay, placed it on the man's eyes, and told him to wash in the Pool of Siloam. The man obeyed, and he came back seeing.

Salvation is always the work of Christ.

A little girl once asked her blind grandfather, "Grandpa, what do you think I look like?"

The old man touched her face gently and replied,

"I have never seen your face, but I know you're beautiful because I can feel your love."

Years later, after receiving surgery, the first face he saw was that same granddaughter standing before him in tears.

He cried, "I dreamed of this moment all my life."

If the first sight of a loved one can bring such overwhelming joy, imagine the joy when a sinner's spiritual eyes are opened to see Jesus Christ.

3. Your Testimony Will Attract Questions

The neighbors asked,

"How were your eyes opened?"

Notice they did not ask whether he had changed.

His transformation was obvious.

When God changes you:

✓Your speech changes.

✓Your character changes.

✓Your priorities change.

✓Your relationships change.

People become curious.

Some ask because they want hope. Others ask because they doubt. But either way, your testimony becomes a witness.

Illustration

A former alcoholic returned to his village after meeting Christ. The same people who used to carry him home drunk now saw him serving others, caring for his family, and worshipping God.

One elderly neighbor stopped him and asked,

"What happened to you? You are not the man we used to know."

With tears in his eyes, he answered, "I met Jesus."

That is the most powerful testimony anyone can give.

4. Never Be Ashamed of Your Story. 

The blind man did not understand every theological question.

He simply told what Jesus had done.

Later he declared,

"One thing I know: though I was blind, now I see." (John 9:25)

Every believer has that testimony.

You may not answer every argument, but no one can deny what Christ has done in your life.

Ask yourself:

Have my spiritual eyes truly been opened?

Can people see Christ in my life?

If someone asked me, "How were your eyes opened?" what would I say?

Is my testimony leading others to Jesus?

Conclusion. 

The blind man entered the day as a beggar but ended it as a witness.

He lost his blindness and found the Light of the world.

One day, every true believer will see something even greater—not just with healed physical eyes, but with glorified eyes. We shall behold our Savior face to face.

The greatest miracle is not simply seeing the world—it is seeing Jesus.

Altar call:

Perhaps you are still living in spiritual darkness. Jesus is still opening blind eyes today. He can remove the blindness of sin, heal your broken heart, forgive your past, and give you a new beginning.

Then your family, friends, and neighbors will ask the same question they asked long ago:

"How were your eyes opened?"

And with joy you will answer:

"Jesus Christ opened my eyes. I was blind, but now I see."
