Jesus Christ the same yesterday, today and forever

JESUS CHRIST THE SAME YESTERDAY, TODAY, AND FOREVER. 

Text: Hebrews 13:8

Theme: The unchanging Christ. 

"Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever." — Hebrews 13:8

Introduction

We live in a world of constant change. Seasons change. Technology changes. Friendships change. Governments rise and fall. Even our bodies grow weak with age.

A little boy once asked his grandfather, "Grandpa, why do people change?" The old man smiled sadly and replied, "Because we are human." Then he pointed to his Bible and said, "But there is One who has never changed, and He never will—Jesus Christ."

Many people have experienced the pain of broken promises. A father who promised to return but never did. A friend who vowed loyalty but disappeared when life became difficult. A doctor who tried everything but could not save a loved one. Human beings change because they are limited. Jesus never changes because He is God.

The writer of Hebrews points believers to the only foundation that never moves: Jesus Christ.

1. Jesus Is the Same Yesterday

The Jesus who walked the dusty roads of Galilee, healed the blind, cleansed lepers, raised the dead, forgave sinners, and welcomed little children is the same Jesus today.

Imagine an elderly woman carefully unfolding an old, faded photograph of her wedding day. Though her husband has passed away, tears fill her eyes as she remembers his love. Memories comfort her, but they cannot embrace her today.

Jesus is different.

We do not merely remember Him as a historical figure. The Christ who comforted Mary and Martha still comforts grieving hearts today. The hands that touched the leper are still stretched out toward broken lives. His compassion has not faded with time.

The same voice that said, "Peace, be still," still speaks peace into storms today.

2. Jesus is the same oday. 

Jesus is not absent. He reigns in heaven, interceding for His people and walking with them every day.

A young woman sat outside an intensive care unit after receiving terrible news about her child. Friends came and left. Some promised to return but never did. Eventually she found herself sitting alone.

Yet later she testified, "I felt a Presence beside me. I wasn't alone."

That is the ministry of Christ.

People may leave us because they are tired, afraid, or helpless. Jesus never abandons His children. At midnight He is present. In the hospital He is present. In the prison He is present. In the funeral home He is present.

His promise still stands:

"I am with you always."

3. Jesus Is the Same Forever. 

Empires collapse. Kings die. Civilizations disappear. But Christ's Kingdom has no ending.

After a devastating earthquake, people searched through piles of rubble looking for anything that had survived. Homes had fallen. Businesses had vanished. Everything people trusted had collapsed.

Life often feels that way.

Health may fail. Money may disappear. Careers may end. Loved ones may die.

Yet there is one Rock that no earthquake can shake—Jesus Christ.

When everything else falls apart, He remains standing.

4. Our Confidence Rests in Him. 

Since Christ never changes, believers can stand firm even when life is uncertain.

A sailor once described sailing through a violent storm. The waves threatened to destroy the ship. The captain finally dropped the anchor. Immediately the vessel stopped drifting.

The storm did not end immediately.

The waves still crashed.

The wind still howled.

But the anchor held.

Jesus Christ is the believer's anchor.

Faith does not remove every storm, but it keeps us from drifting away because our hope is anchored in the unchanging Christ.

Applications. 

1. Build your life on Christ, not circumstances.

Feelings change. Finances change. Relationships change. Christ never changes.

2. Trust His promises during trials.

If He delivered Daniel from the lions' den, strengthened Paul in prison, and comforted Stephen while he was dying, He is able to sustain you today.

3. Remain faithful because He remains faithful.

The believer's consistency should reflect the unwavering faithfulness of Christ.

4. Proclaim the unchanging Gospel.

Our culture changes its opinions every generation, but the message of repentance, salvation, grace, and eternal life through Jesus Christ remains the same.

Conclusion. 

Imagine standing beside the sea watching waves continually crash against a great rock.

Year after year...

Storm after storm...

Generation after generation...

The waves come and go, but the rock remains.

That Rock is Jesus Christ.

Children have trusted Him.

Martyrs have died believing in Him.

Missionaries have crossed oceans for Him.

Saints have entered eternity through Him.

And today He still saves everyone who comes to Him in faith.

He was faithful yesterday.

He is faithful today.

He will be faithful forever.

Altar call:

Perhaps your life has been shaken by disappointment, sickness, loss, or fear.

Everything around you may seem uncertain.

Come today to the One who never changes.

Place your faith in Jesus Christ.

He will never disappoint you, never abandon you, and never cease loving those who trust Him.

Closing Prayer:

Lord Jesus, thank You because You are the same yesterday, today, and forever. In a world filled with uncertainty, You remain our unchanging Rock. Strengthen our faith when we are weak, comfort us when we are broken, and help us to trust Your promises through every season of life. Keep our hearts steadfast until the day we see You face to face. In Your holy name we pray. Amen.
