Text: Ecclesiastes 9:18
“Wisdom is better than weapons of war: but one sinner destroyeth much good.”
Introduction:
Beloved, we live in a world that celebrates power, noise, and force. Nations invest in weapons, individuals rely on influence, and many believe that victory comes through strength alone. Yet the Word of God confronts that mindset with a quiet but profound truth: wisdom, often unseen and unheard; is greater than brute force.
But the verse does not stop there. It gives us a sobering warning: it only takes one sinner to undo the labor of many wise men.
This is a message about the power of wisdom and the danger of one unchecked life.
1. “Wisdom is better than weapons of war” – The Superiority of Divine Insight
Weapons can win battles, but wisdom wins destinies.
Weapons destroy enemies; wisdom prevents unnecessary wars.
Weapons operate by force; wisdom operates by understanding.

Imagine a small village under attack by a mighty army. The villagers are weak and poorly armed. But among them is a wise elder who understands strategy. Instead of fighting head-on, he devises a plan, he redirects the enemy, creates confusion, and saves the entire village without a single sword lifted.
That is the power of wisdom.
In your home, wisdom builds peace more than arguments win it.
In leadership, wisdom achieves results more than aggression enforces them.
In life, wisdom preserves what strength alone would destroy.
The tragedy is not that wisdom is weak—it is that wisdom is often ignored.
People listen to loud voices, but overlook quiet truth.

A young man ignores the counsel of his parents and elders, choosing instead the loud opinions of his peers. Years later, he finds himself in regret, realizing that the quiet voice he ignored held the key to his success.
Ecclesiastes reminds us: wisdom may not shout, but it saves.:
Learn to discern the voice of wisdom even when it is not popular.
Value godly counsel over societal noise.
What is quiet is not always weak; sometimes it is deeply powerful.
3. “But one sinner destroyeth much good” – The Danger of a Corrupt Influence
Here lies the warning: one person, one wrong decision, one sinful act can undo years of progress.
Sin is destructive beyond its immediate impact. It spreads, corrupts, and dismantles.

A single termite in a house may seem insignificant. But when left unchecked, it multiplies and eventually weakens the entire structure until it collapses.

Guard your life, your actions have consequences beyond yourself.

One wrong influence can derail a generation.
4. The Responsibility of Every Believer
This verse places a responsibility on each of us:
You are either:
*A carrier of wisdom, building and preserving,
or
*An agent of destruction, knowingly or unknowingly tearing things down.
There is no neutral ground.
Are you building or breaking?
Are your decisions preserving good or destroying it?
Are you walking in wisdom or drifting into careless living?
Conclusion
Beloved, wisdom is greater than strength, strategy, or weapons. It is the unseen force that sustains life, relationships, and destinies.
But never forget:
It takes many wise acts to build, but only one sinful act to destroy.
Choose wisdom daily. Guard your life carefully.

Final Charge
Walk in wisdom.
Listen for its whisper.
And never underestimate the power of one life, either to build greatly… or to destroy much good.
