Text: "The Lord God is my strength, and He will make my feet like a deer's feet, and He causes me to walk on my heights." — Habakkuk 3:19
Introduction.
Life is not always a smooth road. There are valleys of sorrow, mountains of difficulty, and storms that threaten to overwhelm us. Habakkuk wrote these words not when everything was going well, but after seeing visions of judgment, famine, and suffering. Yet, instead of complaining, he declared, "The Lord God is my strength."
True faith is not proven when the sun is shining, but when the night is darkest.
1. The Lord Is Our Strength
Habakkuk did not say, "My money is my strength," or "My friends are my strength." He boldly declared, "The Lord God is my strength."
Human strength fails.
- Wealth can disappear.
- Health can fail.
- Friends may leave.
- Even our own courage can melt away.
But God's strength never weakens.
Scriptures:
- Isaiah 40:31 – "Those who wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength."
- Psalm 46:1 – "God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble."
2. God gives us the Feet of a Deer.
A deer walks confidently on dangerous cliffs because God created its feet for difficult places.
Notice that God did not promise to remove every mountain. Instead, He promised to give His people steady feet.
Sometimes we pray,
"Lord, remove this problem."
But God answers,
"My child, I will make you strong enough to overcome it."
Faith does not always remove mountains; sometimes it gives us feet that can climb them.
3. God leads us to higher Places.
"He causes me to walk on my heights."
The "high places" represent victory after trials, maturity after suffering, and testimony after tears.
Every painful season can become a platform where God's glory is revealed.
•Joseph's prison became his pathway to the palace.
•David's wilderness prepared him for the throne.
•Jesus' cross became the doorway to resurrection.
God never wastes the pain of His children.

"The Father's Shoes"
Many years ago, a little boy loved walking with his father through the hills. Whenever they reached a steep mountain, the boy became afraid because the rocks were slippery.
One day the father removed his own strong boots and placed them on his son's tiny feet. The boots were much too large, but the father held the boy's hand and said,
"Don't worry about your feet. Just keep your eyes on me."
Step by step, the boy climbed the mountain.
Years later, after the father had died, the grown man found those old boots in a dusty corner of the house. Holding them against his chest, tears filled his eyes as he whispered,
"It was never the shoes that carried me. It was my father's hand."
In the same way, when we look back over our lives, we realize it was never our wisdom, our strength, or our ability that brought us through the darkest nights.
It was the unseen hand of our Heavenly Father.
Perhaps today you are climbing the mountain of sickness, disappointment, grief, financial hardship, or family struggles. You may feel too weak to continue.
Hear the voice of God saying:
"You don't have to climb by your own strength. Hold My hand. I will give you the feet of a deer, and I will bring you safely to the heights."
Conclusion:
The Christian life is not the absence of trouble—it is the presence of God in the middle of trouble.
The same God who strengthened Habakkuk is still strengthening His people today.
When your strength is gone,
God's strength begins.
When your feet are trembling,
God makes them steady.
When the mountain seems impossible,
God leads you to the top.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, You are our strength. When we are weak, make us strong. Give us the feet of a deer so that we may stand firm on every difficult path. Lift every weary heart, strengthen every discouraged soul, and remind us that Your hand will never let us go. Lead us from the valley to the heights, so that our lives will bring glory to Your name. In Jesus' mighty name, Amen.
