“Take Care How You Listen”

“For nothing is secret that will not be revealed, nor anything hidden that will not be known and come out. Therefore take care how you listen, for whoever has, to him will be given; and whoever does not have, from him will be taken even what he seems to have”.

Luke 8:17-18

Introduction:

In Gospel of Luke 8:17-18, Jesus Christ gives a solemn warning: hidden things will not remain hidden forever. Every secret thought, every concealed motive, every private action will one day come into the light. People may hide sin from family, friends, or society, but nothing is hidden from God. The darkness of deception may last for a season, but truth will eventually stand exposed before Heaven.

This is not only a warning about sin; it is also a reminder that faithfulness seen by no one else is noticed by God. Your prayers, sacrifices, tears, and obedience in secret are not forgotten. What is hidden in righteousness will also be revealed in glory.

Then Jesus says, “Take care how you listen.” The condition of the heart determines the fruit of the Word. Some hear casually and remain unchanged. Others hear with humility, guard the truth, and grow stronger in wisdom, faith, and grace. The one who treasures God’s Word receives more light. But the one who neglects it slowly loses even the little understanding he thinks he has.

A closed Bible leads to a cold heart. A careless ear leads to a drifting soul. But a listening heart becomes fertile ground for the voice of God.

Conclusion:

Today, God is calling His people to honest living and careful hearing. Listen with obedience. Listen with reverence. Listen with a heart ready to change. For the Word you honor will build your life, but the Word you ignore may become your judgment.

May we be hearers who grow, servants who remain faithful, and believers who walk in the light before God and men. Amen.
