Text: Jeremiah 33:2-3
“Thus says the LORD the maker of the earth, the LORD who formed it to establish it; the LORD is his name: Call to me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.”
Introduction
Life often confronts us with situations that exceed our wisdom, strength, and resources. There are questions we cannot answer, battles we cannot win alone, and mysteries we cannot unravel. In Jeremiah 33:2-3, God gives His people a divine invitation: “Call to me.” It is not merely a suggestion but a command filled with a promise. The God who created and established the earth invites His children to seek Him in prayer.
At the time this message was given, Jeremiah was imprisoned and Jerusalem was facing destruction. Yet in the midst of crisis, God spoke words of hope. This teaches us that our circumstances do not limit God's ability to speak, answer, and reveal His purposes.
1. The Invitation to Prayer
God says, “Call to me.”
Prayer is God's appointed means of communication with His children. The Creator of the universe desires that we come to Him.
Many people call friends, relatives, politicians, and experts when trouble comes. While there is nothing wrong with seeking human help, our first call should be to God.
Prayer is not a last resort; it is our greatest privilege.
Illustration.
A child who falls while playing immediately runs to his father because he knows he will find help there. In the same way, God wants His children to run to Him first.
The question is not whether God can hear; the question is whether we will call.
2. The Assurance of an Answer
God promises, “I will answer you.”
What a remarkable assurance! God does not say, "I might answer," but "I will answer."
His answer may come in different ways:
©Sometimes He says "Yes."
©Sometimes He says "Wait."
©Sometimes He says "No" because He has something better.
But He always answers those who sincerely seek Him.
God answered:
∆Moses at the Red Sea.
∆Hannah in her barrenness.
∆Elijah on Mount Carmel.
∆The early church in their persecution.
The same God still answers prayer today.
3. The Revelation of Great and Mighty Things
God further promises:
“I will show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.”
The phrase "great and mighty things" refers to hidden, inaccessible, and extraordinary revelations that only God can unveil.
There are blessings you have not yet seen. There are opportunities you have not yet discovered. There are solutions you have not yet imagined. There are spiritual truths you have not yet understood.
When we pray, God opens doors that human wisdom cannot open.
Many believers settle for what they know, while God wants to reveal what they do not know.
4. The God Who Makes the Promise.
Before giving the invitation, God introduces Himself:
“The LORD the maker of the earth, the LORD who formed it to establish it.”
God reminds Jeremiah of His power before speaking about prayer.
The One who invites us to pray is:
*The Creator of the universe.
*The Sustainer of all things.
*The Sovereign Lord over nations and circumstances.
If God could create the earth from nothing, He can certainly handle the problems we bring before Him.
Your situation may seem impossible to you, but it is not impossible to God.
1. Make prayer a daily habit.
2. Bring every concern to God.
3. Pray with faith and expectation.
4. Wait patiently for God's answer.
5. Be ready to receive new revelation and direction from God.
Conclusion:
Jeremiah 33:3 is often called God's telephone number because it contains a direct invitation to prayer. God is still saying today:
"Call to me."
When you call, He promises to answer. When He answers, He promises to reveal things beyond your understanding. The God who made the earth is able to do far more than you can ask or imagine.
Do not allow fear, doubt, or discouragement to silence your prayers. Lift your voice to God. Call upon Him today and expect His answer.
Altar Call.
Perhaps you have been carrying burdens alone. Perhaps your prayer life has grown weak, or you have never truly surrendered your life to Christ.
Today, God is inviting you to come closer. He is saying, "Call to me."
If you desire a renewed relationship with God, forgiveness of sins, or a fresh commitment to prayer, come to Him now in faith. Jesus Christ died and rose again so that we might have access to the Father.
Call upon Him today, and He will receive you.
Prayer.
Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your gracious invitation to call upon You. Forgive us for the times we have depended on our own wisdom instead of seeking Your face. Strengthen our faith to pray with confidence. Reveal Your will, Your power, and Your purposes in our lives. Show us the great and mighty things that we do not know. Let every burden be lifted, every doubt be removed, and every heart be drawn closer to You. Through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.
