 THE WELL OF LIVING AFTER SEEING

Text: Genesis 16:7–14; Genesis 21:14–19

: "Then she called the name of the LORD who spoke to her, 'You are the God who sees me'; for she said, 'Have I also here seen Him who sees me?' Therefore the well was called Beer Lahai Roi..." (Genesis 16:13–14)

Introduction

Life often takes us through wilderness experiences—times of rejection, disappointment, loneliness, and uncertainty. Hagar experienced all these. She was rejected, mistreated, and forced into the desert. Yet in her darkest hour, she encountered God. That encounter transformed her life and gave birth to a place called Beer Lahai Roi, meaning "The Well of the Living One who sees me."

Many people want God to change their circumstances, but God first wants them to see Him. A genuine encounter with God produces a life of hope, purpose, and renewed strength.

Hagar: A woman who saw God

Hagar was an Egyptian servant of Sarah. After conceiving Ishmael, conflict arose, and she fled into the wilderness (Genesis 16:6). Alone and hopeless, she met the Angel of the Lord.

She discovered that:

•God sees the forgotten.

•God hears the cries of the afflicted.

•God restores the broken.

•God gives a future to those who trust Him.

She called God El Roi—"The God Who Sees Me."

What Is "The Well of Living After Seeing"?

A well is a source of life and refreshment. Spiritually, it represents God's continual provision. Once Hagar saw God, she no longer lived in despair but in confidence.

1. Seeing God Changes Your Identity

Before meeting God, Hagar saw herself only as a slave. After meeting Him, she became a woman known for her encounter with God.

Lesson: An encounter with God changes how you see yourself.

Scripture: 2 Corinthians 5:17.

2. Seeing God Gives Hope in the Wilderness

The wilderness was not the end of Hagar's story. God found her where no one else could.

Sometimes God allows the wilderness to become the meeting place of divine revelation.

Illustration: A seed must first be buried before it grows into a fruitful tree. Likewise, our wilderness may become the birthplace of God's purpose.

3. Seeing God Opens Hidden Wells. 

Years later, Hagar and Ishmael were again in the wilderness (Genesis 21:14–19). When all hope seemed lost, God opened Hagar's eyes, and she saw a well of water that had been there all along.

Many blessings remain unseen until God opens our spiritual eyes.

Lesson: Sometimes the miracle is already near us; we simply need God to open our eyes.

4. Living After Seeing Means Walking by Faith

After encountering God, Hagar obeyed His instruction and returned to Abraham's house.

A true encounter with God produces obedience, not merely emotion.

Lessons from Hagar

•God sees those whom society overlooks.

•God's presence is greater than your pain.

•Every wilderness can become a place of divine visitation.

•Divine vision always precedes divine provision.

•God can transform tears into testimonies.

Practical Applications

=Seek God's presence more than immediate solutions.

=Trust God even when circumstances seem hopeless.

=Do not allow rejection to define your future.

=Pray for spiritual eyes to recognize God's provision.

=Live daily with the confidence that God sees and cares for you.

Conclusion

Hagar entered the wilderness as a rejected servant but left as a woman who had encountered God. Her greatest discovery was not merely a well of water but the God who sees.

The same God still sees every broken heart, every struggling family, every discouraged believer, and every weary servant today.

When you truly see God, your life becomes like Beer Lahai Roi—a well of living, hope, strength, and continual refreshment.

Invitation. 

If you feel forgotten, rejected, or spiritually dry, come to the God who sees you. He knows your name, hears your cry, and has already prepared a well of living for your future. Open your heart to Him today, and let Him turn your wilderness into a testimony.

Prayer Points

1. Father, open my spiritual eyes to see You more clearly.

2. Lord, let every wilderness in my life become a place of divine encounter.

3. Open my eyes to every hidden blessing You have prepared for me.

4. Heal every wound caused by rejection and disappointment.

5. Let my life become a well of blessing and refreshment to others.

6. O God who sees me, lead me into Your purpose and sustain me with Your living water.

7. From today, I shall live by faith, hope, and the assurance of Your unfailing presence. In Jesus' name. Amen.
