Text: Zephaniah 2:3
"Seek the LORD, all you meek of the earth, who have behaved in accordance with His justice. Seek righteousness, seek meekness. Perhaps you will be hidden in the day of the LORD's anger."
Introduction.
The book of Zephaniah is both a warning and an invitation. God announced that judgment was coming upon Judah because of idolatry, pride, and disobedience. Yet, before judgment fell, God extended an invitation of mercy: "Seek the Lord."
God always warns before He judges. Noah preached before the flood came. Jonah preached before Nineveh was destroyed. Today, the Holy Spirit is still calling people to seek the Lord while there is time.
Those who seek God sincerely will find mercy even in times of judgment.
1: Seek the Lord Personally
"Seek the LORD..."
Seeking God means pursuing Him with all your heart. It is more than attending church; it is developing a genuine relationship with Him.
Jeremiah 29:13: "You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart."
God is not hiding from us; He desires to be found by those who earnestly seek Him.
Illustration:
A person who loses a valuable ring searches every corner until it is found. The value determines the intensity of the search. If God is truly valuable to us, we will seek Him with determination.
2: Seek Righteousness.
"Seek righteousness..."
Righteousness means living according to God's standard. We cannot continue in sin and expect God's protection.
Jesus said:
"Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness..." (Matthew 6:33)
Seeking righteousness involves:
-Repentance from sin.
-Obedience to God's Word.
-Living with integrity.
-Loving justice and holiness.
God blesses those who hunger and thirst after righteousness.
3: Seek Meekness.
"Seek meekness..."
Meekness is strength under God's control. It is humility that submits to God's will.
•Pride caused Satan to fall. •Pride destroyed Pharaoh. •Pride brought Nebuchadnezzar low.
But humility brought honor to Moses, David, and above all, Jesus Christ.
God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble (James 4:6).
4: God's Protection Belongs to Those Who Seek Him.
"Perhaps you will be hidden in the day of the LORD's anger."
This is not uncertainty about God's faithfulness but a call to sincere repentance.
Throughout Scripture, God hides His faithful people during judgment:
•Noah was safe in the ark.
•Israel was protected during the Passover.
•Rahab was preserved in Jericho.
•Lot was rescued from Sodom.
God knows how to preserve those who belong to Him.
Psalm 27:5 declares:
"In the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion."
Illustration.
When a severe storm approaches, wise people immediately seek shelter. Those who ignore the warning expose themselves to danger.
The storms of God's judgment are real, but Jesus Christ is our refuge. Those who run to Him are safe.
Lessons:
God's warnings are expressions of His mercy.
It is dangerous to delay repentance.
Humility attracts God's favor.
Righteous living prepares us for eternity.
God always protects those who truly trust Him.
Conclusion.
The invitation is urgent: Seek the Lord now.
Tomorrow is not guaranteed. Opportunities for repentance will not last forever.
Today God offers mercy instead of judgment. Today He offers forgiveness instead of condemnation. Today He offers refuge through Jesus Christ.
Isaiah 55:6 says:
"Seek the LORD while He may be found; call upon Him while He is near."
Now is the acceptable time.
Altar Call.
If you have drifted from God or never surrendered your life to Christ, this is your opportunity. Turn from sin, humble yourself before God, and receive His mercy. Jesus died and rose again so that everyone who believes in Him may receive forgiveness and eternal life. Come to Him today while His invitation is still open.
Prayer Points
1. Father, create in me a heart that sincerely seeks You every day.
2. Lord, forgive every sin that separates me from Your presence.
3. Help me to walk in righteousness and obedience to Your Word.
4. Clothe me with the spirit of humility and meekness.
5. Hide me and my family under Your divine protection in every time of trouble.
6. Let my life be found faithful when You return.
7. Holy Spirit, keep me steadfast until the end.
8. In Jesus' name, may I always be found among those who seek the Lord wholeheartedly. Amen.
